Azerbaijan detains gang members supplying cocaine from South America Followers of Pablo Escobar

The members of the gangs supplying cocaine to Azerbaijan from South America by transit through Europe and smuggled from Iran have been detained.

The Interior Ministry press service told Caliber.Az that officers of the Main Anti-Drug Department of the Ministry detained Khalid Iskenderov, Khayyam Asadov and Elman Yusifov who had about 1 kg of cocaine and 3,284 ecstasy pills.

The drugs were found to have been smuggled from South America to Europe and from there into Azerbaijan.

The truck driver Elman Yusifov, who was engaged in international cargo transportation, imported drugs into the country, and Khayyam Asadov picked them up from the border areas and delivered them to Khalid Iskenderov. The latter, in his turn, sold cocaine and ecstasy in Baku and took the money (in the form of currency) abroad.

The detainees were found to be the main suppliers of cocaine and ecstasy into the country.

During other operations 5 more persons illegally importing narcotics from Iran to Azerbaijan were detained - Khagani Sultanov from Yardimli region, Emin Aliyev, Kamil Aliyev and Natig Aslanov from the capital, and Vugar Jafarov.

A total of 50 kg of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, including 33 kg of heroin, 12 kg of marijuana enriched with psychotropic substances, 5 kg of methamphetamine, bank cards used for drugs trafficking and 210 pills of psychotropic substances were found in possession of those persons.

The facts were prosecuted under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code, a preventive measure in the form of arrest was chosen against the detainees, the investigation is ongoing.
