Azerbaijan detains some of those involved in missile attack on Ganja in 2020 Statement by the Prosecutor General

Azerbaijani Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev has said that some of those, involved in the missile attack on the city of Ganja during the 44-day war with Armenia in 2020, have already been arrested.

According to him, three years have passed since the rocket attack on Ganja by the Armenian Armed Forces during the Patriotic War, APA reports.

“Several persons who committed this and other crimes against Azerbaijanis have already been arrested,” the prosecutor general emphasized.

Aliyev noted that investigative actions are currently being carried out against them.

“Criminal cases have been opened in connection with crimes committed against Azerbaijanis during the First Karabakh War (1988-94), the Patriotic War (202) and further, during the ceasefire. Investigative actions in these criminal cases are ongoing in the Military Prosecutor’s Office, the General Prosecutor’s Office, and the State Security Service,” added Aliyev.

To recap, the Azerbaijani State Security Service (SSS) detained the former “president” of the Garabagh separatists, Arayik Harutyunyan, who had ordered launching missile attacks on Ganja.

Along with Harutyunyan, the former “presidents” of the separatists, Arkady Gukasyan (1997-2007) and Bako Sahakyan (2007-2020), the Garabagh representative of the Dashnaktsutyun party and the former “speaker of parliament” of the separatist regime David Ishkhanyan were also detained and delivered to Baku.

The Armenian Armed Forces on October 4, 5, 8, 11 and 17, 2020, at different hours of the day, fired at Ganja with Tochka U, Smerch, Grad and other missiles.

As a result of the missile strikes, 26 people were killed, including six children and teenagers, 142 people received injuries of varying degrees of severity, including 29 children, four children from three families lost both parents, significant damage was caused to more than 3,900 residential and non-residential areas city, as well as about a hundred vehicles.

The Ganja Memorial Complex will be created based on the presidential order to perpetuate the memory of the residents of Ganja who lost their lives as a result of the war crimes of Armenia. The foundation of the Memorial Complex to be built on Alakbar Rafibeyli Street was laid during the visit of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to Ganja on January 30, 2022.
