Azerbaijan detains two customs officers suspected of bribery
Illegal actions of customs officers have been revealed as a result of search operations carried out by the Azerbaijani Anti-Corruption General Directorate under the Prosecutor General's Office together with the State Customs Committee.
Officer of the customs assessment and risk management department of the Main Customs Department for Excise Goods of the State Customs Committee Shahin Isgandarov is suspected of taking bribes in exchange for reducing duties and other expenses payable for cars imported into the country, the Prosecutor General's Office told Report.
Moreover, officer of the Shirvan customs post of the main customs department of the Northern Territory Javid Mammadov is also suspected of taking bribes in exchange for slight and quick verification at the post.
Mammadov is suspected of receiving bribes several times from citizens in exchange for assisting in the illegal transfer of funds to the Russian Federation in various amounts without declaring them.
Criminal cases have been initiated into the cases by the Anti-Corruption General Directorate under the Prosecutor General's Office.
Isgandarov and Mammadov were charged under Articles 311.2 (receiving a bribe) and 311.3.2 (receiving a bribe repeatedly) of the Criminal Code, and a preventive measure in the form of detention was chosen by the court.
Currently, investigative and search operations are underway.
