Following the closure of Iranian airspace, Azerbaijan has become a vital aerial passage for the Middle East, effectively serving as a “Suez Canal” in the skies, connecting Europe and Asia.

Recent adjustments to regional airspace have significantly increased transit traffic. On March 5, Azeravionavigation successfully handled 171 additional transit flights, Caliber.Az reports, citing Baku’s Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD).

In total, more than 300 flights were managed in Azerbaijani airspace that day, underscoring the country’s expanding role as a critical air corridor between Europe and Asia amid regional disruptions.
