Azerbaijan, EU discuss peace agenda and cooperation at Davos PHOTO
President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos discussed the regional peace agenda and prospects for cooperation on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos on 21 January.
The meeting focused on regional stability, the normalisation of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and the future development of cooperation between Baku and the European Union, Caliber.Az reports via state media.
During the talks, the sides positively recalled Commissioner Kos’ visit to Azerbaijan last year, including her trip to Karabakh and meeting with the Azerbaijani head of state. The European Commissioner noted that the large-scale reconstruction and development efforts underway in the territories liberated from occupation had left a strong impression on her.
An exchange of views was held on advancing the peace agenda and supporting sustainable stability in the South Caucasus. The discussions also covered cooperation in key areas such as energy, regional transport connectivity, humanitarian demining, and post-conflict rehabilitation, with particular emphasis on Azerbaijan’s contribution to Europe’s energy security.
Marta Kos stated that the European Union stands ready to support Azerbaijan’s efforts in humanitarian demining and expressed interest in assisting with infrastructure projects, including the restoration of the Nakhchivan railway line, which is seen as an important element of regional connectivity.
The meeting concluded with both sides emphasising the significant potential for further expanding Azerbaijan–EU cooperation across a wide range of sectors and exchanging views on concrete avenues for deepening their partnership.
