Azerbaijan, EU in talks over increasing gas supplies to Europe
The European Union (EU) is engaged in an active dialogue with Azerbaijan on increasing gas supplies amid the energy crisis.
Due to sanctions against Russia, Europe, which is experiencing a shortage of natural gas, has found a solution in a fraternal country, Report informs citing the Turkish newspaper Star.
It is expected that by the end of 2022, Azerbaijan, which has set a record for natural gas supplies, will increase the volume of gas supplies to 11 billion cubic metres.
The newspaper notes that the High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Policy Josep Borrel has made progress in purchasing more natural gas from Norway, Algeria and Azerbaijan:
"Azerbaijan plans to increase gas supplies to Europe via TAP [Trans-Adriatic Pipeline] and TANAP [Trans-Anatolian Pipeline] to 9.1 billion cubic metres by the end of 2022, and in 2023 it is expected that the volume of gas supplies will reach 11 billion cubic metres. On July 18, Azerbaijan and the European Commission signed a memorandum of understanding on strategic cooperation in the energy sector," the report says.
The publication recalls that with the completion of the construction of TAP on December 31, 2020, Azerbaijan began supplying commercial gas to Europe via the Southern Gas Corridor.
