Azerbaijan finds remains of its soldiers missing in Lachin
During a search operation conducted by state agencies, including the State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages, and Missing Persons, on July 3, 2024, remains believed to belong to two Azerbaijani soldiers were found at the Yuzbulag pasture in the Istisu settlement of the Kalbajar district.
The discovery was reported in a joint statement by the State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages, and Missing Persons, the State Security Service, and the General Prosecutor's Office of Azerbaijan, according to Caliber.Az.
Expert analyses conducted by relevant departments of the Ministry of Health and the State Security Service have confirmed that the remains found belong to two soldiers who went missing on March 3, 2022, in the Lachin district: Farid Mammadov, 21, and Firdovsi Abdullayev, 21.
Forensic investigations and medical examinations revealed that the soldiers died from frostbite due to prolonged exposure to cold after getting lost in harsh weather conditions in the mountainous and difficult terrain. The families of the soldiers were notified of the discovery at a meeting with the State Commission on August 5. Arrangements for the burial of Mammadov and Abdullayev are currently underway.
