Azerbaijan foils drone drug smuggling attempt from Iran
Azerbaijani border guards successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle drugs from Iran into Azerbaijan using a drone, according to the State Border Service.
The operation took place near "Goytapa" border detachment Caliber.Az reports citing the State Border Service.
The border outpost was put on high alert following an alarm signal, and the area was swiftly sealed off before search operations commenced.
Thanks to swift action and the support of residents, a Hyundai bearing the registration plate 77-RA-376 was intercepted.
A search of the vehicle revealed and led to the seizure of 12.6 kilograms of marijuana.
Preliminary questioning revealed that the suspects are residents of Baku Agshin Shakhtakhtinsky, and Rinad Aliyev from the Fuzuli district.
Both admitted to arriving at the location to collect the drugs.
Operational and investigative measures into the case are ongoing.
