Azerbaijan foils next drug smuggling attempt from Iran across Caspian Sea PHOTO/VIDEO

An observation point of the Azerbaijani State Border Guard Service has detected and placed under technical control an unknown object in the Caspian Sea, heading north from Iran.

Following the interaction between the Coast Guard observation point and the border patrol ship, the smuggling of narcotics from Iran to Azerbaijan was prevented, Caliber.Az reports, citing the State Border Service.

In the territorial waters of Azerbaijan in the Caspian Sea, a Coast Guard patrol ship in the Astara roadstead discovered a bundle tied to an anchor 12 miles off the coast. When the bundle was examined, 6.63 kg of marijuana was found and seized.

Investigations are still underway.
