Azerbaijan, Georgia deepen cooperation across energy, transport, trade PHOTO
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev met with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on May 18, with discussions focusing on the expansion of bilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and Georgia across a wide range of areas, including political, economic-trade, energy, transport, logistics, and investments, as well as the importance of strengthening connectivity and regional partnerships.
During the meeting, President Aliyev recalled with satisfaction his state visit to Georgia in April of this year, noting that the visit contributed to strengthening relations between the two countries. He also emphasised the importance of the documents scheduled to be signed during the current visit in terms of expanding cooperation, Caliber.Az reports via the presidential press service.
Kobakhidze, expressing gratitude to the Azerbaijani president for the reception, said he was particularly pleased to be in Azerbaijan. He also thanked President Aliyev for his state visit to Georgia, stating that the visit had left a deep impression on everyone.
The Georgian prime minister noted that Azerbaijan and Georgia play an important role as a connectivity hub for many countries and highlighted the importance of further deepening cooperation in this direction in the future.
He also congratulated President Ilham Aliyev on the holding of the 13th Session of the UN World Urban Forum in Baku, describing the event as a good platform to discuss the global urban planning agenda. President Aliyev expressed his gratitude for the congratulations.
The meeting further highlighted the dynamic development of relations based on good-neighbourliness and friendship between the two countries, noting that the bilateral agenda is very broad. It was stated that there is significant potential for expanding cooperation in political, economic-trade, energy, transport, logistics, investment and other fields, and that mutual visits at various levels play an important role in strengthening relations.
Following the talks, with the participation of President Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, several documents were signed, including the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of Georgia on the supply of natural gas to Georgia, the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of Georgia on the supply of electricity to Georgia and the transit of electricity through the territory of Georgia, as well as the Protocol of the 41st meeting of the Coordination Council on the rehabilitation, reconstruction and construction of the railway section from Marabda to the border of the Republic of Türkiye (Kartsakhi) within the framework of the implementation of the new Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line project.
