Azerbaijan highlights gender equality achievements at OSCE PA seminar

17 January 2025 20:05

A delegation from the Milli Majlis (Parliament) of Azerbaijan highlighted the gender equality achievements in an online seminar organized by the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly (PA) and the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights.

The seminar, focused on the Beijing Platform for Action: The Role of Parliaments, was held to discuss the progress and challenges in achieving gender equality globally, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

Sevinj Fataliyeva, a member of the Milli Majlis delegation to the OSCE PA, highlighted Azerbaijan’s significant strides in advancing gender equality and enhancing women's rights.

During her address, Fataliyeva highlighted the pivotal role played by Azerbaijan's Law on Guarantees of Gender Equality, which has been instrumental in combating violence against women, dismantling gender stereotypes, and ensuring equal opportunities across society.

The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly (OSCE PA) and the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) hosted an online seminar marking the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Platform for Action, a pivotal framework for advancing women's rights and promoting global gender equality.

Approximately 65 parliamentarians, OSCE officials, and experts participated in the webinar titled “30 Years of the Beijing Platform for Action: The Role of Parliaments.” Adopted in 1995, the Beijing Platform for Action identifies 12 critical areas of concern, including poverty, education, health, violence, armed conflict, economy, decision-making power, institutional mechanisms, human rights, media, environment, and the rights of girls.

The Platform outlines strategic objectives for each area, providing a comprehensive set of actions for governments, parliaments, and stakeholders across national, regional, and international levels.

During the webinar, participants emphasized that this anniversary serves not only as a moment to reflect on progress made but also as a renewed call to strengthen commitments and accelerate efforts toward achieving full gender equality.
