Azerbaijan highlights national press legacy, modern media challenges

Azerbaijan's Media Development Agency (MEDIA) hosted an event marking National Press Day on July 22, bringing together media professionals and officials to discuss the legacy of the country's press and the responsibilities of modern journalism.

Speaking at the event, Daghbeyi Ismayilov, chairman of MEDIA's Supervisory Board, said the 151-year history of Azerbaijan's national press has played a key role in the country's political, social and cultural development, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

He noted that the media policy established by National Leader Heydar Aliyev is being successfully continued by President Ilham Aliyev and stressed the importance of preserving the traditions of the national press and passing them on to future generations.

Member of Parliament and Iki Sahil newspaper editor-in-chief Vugar Rahimzade stressed that Azerbaijan's national press has made a significant contribution to shaping national identity, promoting enlightenment ideas and advancing society.

Saadat Mammadova, deputy chair of the Press Council, highlighted the importance of ethical journalism, professional solidarity and cooperation among media organisations in today's information environment.

Speakers also underscored the responsibility of media professionals to foster a reliable information environment and provide the public with accurate information.

Rafiq Hashimov, deputy chairman of Azerbaijan Television and Radio Broadcasting CJSC, spoke about the role of television and radio in educating society and preserving national values and cultural heritage, adding that professionalism, speed and public trust have become increasingly important in the modern media landscape.

The event concluded with the screening of a video dedicated to the history of Azerbaijan's national press.
