Azerbaijan honors national hero Polad Hashimov's memory on his birthday PHOTO
On January 2, the birthday of Azerbaijan's National Hero, Maj.-Gen. Polad Hashimov, a group of officers from the Defence Ministry, participants of the second Karabakh war, and family members of the national hero visited his grave.
Flowers were laid at Hashimov's grave on behalf of the ministry's leadership, and his memory was honored, the ministry told Caliber.Az.
Hashimov was born in Vandam settlement, Gabala district on January 2, 1975. He finished secondary school in Sumgayit city, where he had moved with his family. After graduating from the Heydar Aliyev Military Institute, he began serving in the armed forces.
For his valor during the April 2016 clashes, Hashimov was awarded "For Service to the Fatherland" Order of the third degree. On June 24, 2019, he was promoted to the rank of Maj.-Gen. by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
Hashimov heroically perished on July 14, 2020, while repelling the Armenian armed forces’ provocations in the direction of Tovuz. By the decree of the president, dated December 9, 2020, he was posthumously awarded the honorary title of "National Hero of Azerbaijan."
