Azerbaijan honours plane crash victims with flag at half-mast at Council of Europe PHOTO
Azerbaijan's Permanent Representative to the Council of Europe Fakhraddin Ismayilov has said that the flag of Azerbaijan was lowered to half-mast at the headquarters of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, France.
He noted that the flag was lowered to half-mast in mourning for the victims of the Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) plane crash in Kazakhstan, Caliber.Az reports.
“The tricolour flag of Azerbaijan in front of the headquarters of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg flies at half mast today, as the people of Azerbaijan are mourning the victims of the tragic airplane crash of December 25 that resulted in numerous casualties,” Ismayilov wrote on X.
The crash occurred on December 25, when an Embraer aircraft operated by Azerbaijan Airlines, en route from Baku to Grozny, tragically crashed near Aktau. The plane was carrying 67 people, including 37 Azerbaijanis, 16 Russians, 6 Kazakhs, and 3 Kyrgyz nationals. Sadly, 38 people lost their lives in the crash, with 29 survivors. In response, President Ilham Aliyev declared a day of mourning in Azerbaijan on December 26 to honour those lost in the tragedy.
