27 December 2024 12:50

Milli Majlis (Parliament) of Azerbaijan has approved an agreement between Azerbaijan and the Maldives that exempts holders of diplomatic, service, and official passports from visa requirements.

The agreement, signed on November 15, 2024, was approved during a plenary session of the parliament on December 27, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

Earlier, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the governments of the Maldives and Azerbaijan to enhance cooperation between their foreign ministries.

The MoU was signed during a ceremony held alongside the Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Khaleel, signed the MoU on behalf of the Maldives, while Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister, Elnur Mammadov, signed on behalf of Azerbaijan.

According to the foreign ministry, the MoU aims to strengthen and expand bilateral relations and cooperation between the two nations. It also seeks to facilitate regular consultations at all levels on matters of mutual interest.

Additionally, the MoU is expected to bolster cooperation between the countries in the training of diplomats.
