Azerbaijan marks transit milestone by shipping over 2 million tonnes of Kazakh oil photo
Oil shipments from Kazakhstan through Azerbaijan have surpassed 2 million tonnes, marking a key milestone in the growing energy transit cooperation between the two countries.
The transfer has been shipped by tankers operated by Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company (ASCO), Caliber.Az reports citing the company’s press service.
Mehman Mehdiyev, Head of ASCO's press service, noted that a total of 2,085,729 tonnes of oil has been transported so far within the framework of the project.
The bulk of the shipments — 1,962,983 tonnes — originated from the Tengiz oil field, while a smaller share of 122,746 tonnes came from the Kashagan oil field.
The most recent delivery took place on March 12, 2026, when the ASCO-operated tanker President Heydar Aliyev transported 9,326 tonnes of Tengiz crude from the port of Aktau to the Aztrans terminal in Sangachal.
The transit initiative has expanded steadily since its launch. The first shipment of Tengiz oil was delivered from Aktau to Baku on March 23, 2023. This was followed by the first shipment from the Kashagan field on January 27, 2025, further diversifying the volumes moving through Azerbaijan’s export infrastructure.

The project highlights Azerbaijan’s growing role as a strategic transit hub for Central Asian energy supplies heading toward global markets.
