Azerbaijan nabs drug smugglers at Iran border PHOTO

On December 24 at 23:50, the Goytepe Border Detachment noticed the movement of four unknown persons from Iran towards Azerbaijan in the service area of the border post near the village of Ostayir, Yardimli district.

State Border Service told Caliber.Az that the border post immediately raised the alarm, the service area was cordoned off and law enforcement agencies were informed about the search operations. As a result, one of those found violating the border, a resident of Ostayir village, Yardimli District - Ragimov Khalid Teyub oglu - was arrested.

During the inspection of the area, 64 kg 332 g of narcotics (64 kg 300 g of marijuana, 32 g of opium) and 100 psychotropic pills were found and confiscated.

Other members of the criminal group were identified and were able to flee the scene, taking advantage of the difficult terrain. As a result of operational searches carried out on December 25 jointly with the Yardimli District Police Department, residents of Yardimli District - Ragimov Sahig Teyub oglu and Jabbarov Javid Aliisa oglu - were detained at 00:35, and Gasimov Nurlan Fitat oglu was nabbed at 10:30.

Operational and investigative measures are still underway.
