Azerbaijan reports 430 landmine victims since end of 2020 war PHOTO

An operational meeting chaired by Azerbaijan’s Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev has reviewed the work of the Prosecutor General’s Office during the first half of 2026 and outlined priorities for the coming period.

According to the office’s press service, Aliyev said two people had been injured by landmines and unexploded ordnance in Azerbaijan’s liberated territories during the reporting period, while 11 others sustained various injuries, Caliber.Az reports. 

Since November 2020, a total of 430 people have fallen victim to landmine incidents in the territories, including 73 fatalities and 357 people injured, according to the Prosecutor General’s Office.

The meeting also noted that six previously unresolved premeditated murder cases were solved in 2026 through joint investigative and operational measures with the Interior Ministry. Two of the cases were in Baku and four in other regions.

During the first half of the year, the Prosecutor General’s Office filed 563 appeals and 155 cassation appeals. Courts upheld 355 appeals and 55 cassation appeals, helping to address violations of the law.

Aliyev also said that an amnesty declared as part of the “Year of the Constitution and Sovereignty” had been applied to 22,935 people to date.

The meeting further noted improvements in professional, executive and labour discipline. Following internal investigations, eight Prosecutor General’s Office employees were disciplined, including six who received reprimands or severe reprimands and two who were dismissed.

The Prosecutor General also received more than 400 citizens during visits to 14 cities and districts across Azerbaijan.
