Azerbaijan’s Azercosmos to lead space technology conference in Baku this April

24 January 2025 11:55

Baku is set to host the Space Technology Conference (STC-2025) on April 24-25, 2025, bringing together leading experts, agencies, and investors from the global space sector.

The Ministry of Digital Development and Transport told Caliber.Az that the conference, organized by the Space Agency of Azerbaijan (Azercosmos) in cooperation with Dialogue Events Ltd., is expected to attract over 400 participants from 35 countries, including representatives from national space agencies, private and state organizations, and investors.

Key topics for discussion at STC-2025 will include advancements in remote sensing, the strategic role of satellite communications in Central Eurasia, innovation in the space industry, and the contributions of satellite technologies to sustainable development.

A highlight of the event will be a dedicated meeting on April 23, 2025, when the heads of space agencies from countries of the Organisation of Turkic States will gather.

Azercosmos, Azerbaijan’s premier satellite operator and the first of its kind in the Caucasus region will play a central role in the event. The agency is renowned for offering satellite imagery and geoinformation services and has significantly contributed to Azerbaijan’s position as a key player in the global satellite industry.

In a historic development, Azerbaijan registered its own orbital position at 46° east longitude on January 12, 2024. This step, which included the management and transfer of the C and Ku frequency bands of the Azerspace-1 satellite from Malaysia to Azerbaijan, marks the country's first and only orbital position.

Looking ahead, Azercosmos is preparing for the launch of its Azersky-2 satellite in 2026, with additional satellites, Azersky 2A and Azersky 2B, planned for deployment into orbit. The agency also unveiled a platform on April 5, 2024, to monitor climate change from space, making it the first such platform in Azerbaijan.

In November 2024, during the 29th UN Climate Change Conference held in Baku, Azercosmos hosted a summit of space agencies, further solidifying its role in global space initiatives.
