Azerbaijan’s climate envoy urges wealthy nations to honour COP commitments
Azerbaijan’s presidential climate envoy and COP29 President, Mukhtar Babayev, has called on developed countries to fully implement commitments made under global climate agreements, warning that many past decisions remain unfulfilled.
Speaking at a panel during the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, Babayev said progress on key outcomes from previous Conference of the Parties (COP) meetings has been inconsistent, with several initiatives either stalled or only partially implemented, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
He stressed that stronger, results-oriented action is needed to support developing nations, particularly in Africa, which continue to face disproportionate climate challenges.
“Large and wealthy countries, acting together, should take into account the decisions taken at COP. All annual discussions pursue the same goal. However, no significant changes have been observed from year to year,” Babayev said.
