Azerbaijan’s FM meets Kenyan president to boost bilateral links Photo / UPDATED

On June 3, Kenyan President William Ruto received Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov for a high-level meeting, during which both sides emphasised that bilateral visits are vital to strengthening partnership. 

Both leaders highlighted the importance of political dialogue, and intergovernmental engagement as key drivers of their growing partnership, the Azerbaijani foreign ministry told Caliber.Az.

The sides emphasised the value of closer collaboration within international organisations and expressed optimism about expanding ties across diverse sectors.

The discussions covered a broad range of cooperation opportunities, including economy, energy, agriculture, education, culture, and tourism. Both parties recognised significant potential in developing connections in information and communication technologies, the digital economy, energy, and mineral resources. They also agreed on the need to organise joint business forums and trade missions to pinpoint concrete areas for collaboration.

Bayramov reiterated Azerbaijan’s commitment to deepening partnerships with African countries, with a particular focus on Kenya. The meeting additionally touched upon Azerbaijan’s successful hosting of COP29, underscoring the importance of the outcomes adopted at the conference. The two sides also looked ahead to potential collaboration within the framework of the upcoming World Urban Forum scheduled for 2026.

During an official visit to Kenya, Azerbaijani Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov was received by the country’s President, William Ruto.

According to a statement from Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry, shared on X, at the meeting, the prospects of cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, natural resources, education, tourism, among others, were discussed, Caliber.Az reports.

The ministry stated, “Recent dynamism in reciprocal high-level visits and interactions, as well as strengthening cooperation within the framework of regional and international cooperation, were noted with satisfaction.”

To recall, Minister Bayramov is currently on an official visit to Nairobi, Kenya, marking a significant step in strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries.

On June 3, Azerbaijan officially opened its embassy in Kenya, with a formal inauguration ceremony attended by Bayramov and Kenya’s Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign Minister, Musalia Mudavadi.

Both officials described the establishment of the diplomatic mission as a key development to enhance interstate relations, facilitate communication, and boost cooperation.

During his visit, Bayramov held high-level talks with Musalia Mudavadi, discussing a wide range of bilateral and multilateral issues of mutual interest.

Bayramov also expressed gratitude to the Kenyan government for providing a favourable environment for the functioning of the Azerbaijani diplomatic mission, underlining the commitment to deepen collaboration between the two nations.

Additionally, Bayramov extended an invitation to President Ruto for a state visit to Azerbaijan.
