Azerbaijan-Kenya diplomatic dialogue advances with ministerial-level meeting
Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister, Jeyhun Bayramov, has begun high-level discussions with Kenya’s Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Musalia Mudavadi, during an official visit to Nairobi.
According to a statement from Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry, shared on X, the two officials are holding a one-on-one meeting to exchange views on a broad range of bilateral and multilateral issues of mutual concern, Caliber.Az reports.
Note that, in early May, Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Yalchin Rafiyev held the first round of political consultations in Nairobi with officials from Kenya’s Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs. Discussions focused on economic, trade, humanitarian, digital, and energy cooperation. Both parties agreed to deepen collaboration within international organisations such as the United Nations and the Non-Aligned Movement.
In March, Azerbaijani Ambassador Sultan Hajiyev met with Kenyan Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi to explore joint efforts in sustainable urban development, particularly ahead of the 13th UN World Urban Forum and World Environment Day 2026.
Climate cooperation remains central. Kenya played an active role in COP29, hosted by Azerbaijan in 2024. Kenyan Environment Minister Soipan Tuya praised Baku’s leadership, especially the establishment of the COP Troika format, involving COP28–COP30 presidencies.
In parallel, both countries are advancing public service digitisation. Kenya has shown interest in Azerbaijan’s ASAN service model, with potential adaptation into Kenya’s Huduma programme.
A memorandum on judicial cooperation, signed in 2024, further reflects growing institutional links between Baku and Nairobi.
