09 April 2026 17:15

Azerbaijan’s Interior Minister, Colonel General Vilayat Eyvazov, hosted his Turkish counterpart, Mustafa Çiftçi, in Baku as the two sides reaffirmed close security and law enforcement ties between Azerbaijan and Türkiye.

Mustafa Çiftçi arrived on an official visit at the invitation of Vilayat Eyvazov, leading a delegation, and paid tribute at the Alley of Honour to national leader Heydar Aliyev, while also commemorating Azerbaijani martyrs and Turkish soldiers, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Interior Ministry.

In bilateral talks, Eyvazov congratulated Çiftçi on his recent appointment and underscored the high level of co-operation between the two interior ministries.

He said Baku attaches particular importance to expanding engagement with Türkiye’s law enforcement bodies, including through international co-operation frameworks.

The discussions highlighted existing intergovernmental agreements covering mutual legal assistance, exchange of expertise and broader institutional collaboration. Eyvazov also pointed to the Azerbaijani police and internal troops’ record in maintaining public order and tackling crime, expressing confidence that Çiftçi’s first official visit would further deepen bilateral ties.

Çiftçi, for his part, thanked his hosts for their reception and said Ankara values the alignment between the two “brotherly” nations in addressing global challenges. He emphasised joint efforts to combat organised crime and support regional stability, while praising Azerbaijan’s rapid development and describing Baku as one of the world’s safest and most attractive cities.

The meeting, attended by Türkiye’s ambassador to Azerbaijan Birol Akgün, also covered a range of other issues of mutual interest.
