Azerbaijan’s leading airport celebrates unmatched summer traffic surge
August 2025 marked a historic milestone for Heydar Aliyev International Airport, which for the first time served approximately 840,000 passengers in a single month, the airport’s press service reported to Caliber.Az.
This figure represents the highest August traffic in the airport’s history, with a total of 8,238 flights operated throughout the month.
During the summer travel season, Istanbul, Antalya, Izmir, Dubai, and Tbilisi emerged as the most popular destinations for passengers. Among the 38 international airlines operating these routes, Turkish Airlines, AJet, Fly Dubai, Air Arabia, and Wizz Air stood out with particularly strong passenger traffic.
Transit passengers also saw significant growth. In August 2025, 42,053 travellers transited through Baku, marking a 12.1% increase compared to the same period last year.
The national carrier, AZAL, also recorded growth on its Baku-Nakhchivan-Baku route, carrying 79,120 passengers, a 2% rise from August 2024. Flights on this domestic route increased to 372 over the month, reflecting steady demand for internal travel.
