Azerbaijan's media agency calls on Meta to act against deepfakes
Azerbaijan’s Media Development Agency (MEDIA) has urged Meta to take swift action to remove harmful content after a deepfake video falsely attributed to President Ilham Aliyev circulated on several Facebook accounts.
In a statement, MEDIA said the fabricated material was created using deepfake technology and was intended to mislead the public. The agency warned that the disinformation campaign sought to obtain users’ personal data, potentially causing financial losses, Caliber.Az reports.
According to MEDIA, such cases of cyber fraud have recently become more frequent on Facebook.
The agency called on Meta, Facebook’s parent company, to promptly remove the content and prevent its further spread. It also urged the public to rely exclusively on information released through official sources.
