Azerbaijan urges vigilance as AI deepfakes spread false official statements
The Azerbaijan Media Development Agency (MEDIA) has issued a strong warning to the public regarding the circulation of fabricated videos on social media platforms, allegedly portraying statements made by Azerbaijani officials.
According to a statement from MEDIA, these videos were created using deepfake technology and are entirely false, Caliber.Az reports.
“These fake videos were generated using artificial intelligence and have a specific purpose—to mislead people,” the agency stated. It emphasized that the deliberate dissemination of such content represents a growing threat to public trust and information integrity.
The agency urged citizens, journalists, and public figures to exercise heightened vigilance and responsibility in the face of what it described as an orchestrated campaign of disinformation. “We urge the public to trust only information from official sources, disseminated by the country’s news agencies and other professional media. We urge the citizens of Azerbaijan, journalists, and public activists to always be principled and vigilant in such situations, when a campaign based on lies is gaining momentum,” MEDIA emphasized.
