Albania recognised Azerbaijan’s independence on January 4, 1992, and the two countries established diplomatic relations on September 23, 1993.
In recent years, the relationship has deepened: in 2024, they signed a comprehensive Agreement on Economic Cooperation, covering trade, energy, infrastructure, agriculture, tourism and more.
The opening of embassies (Azerbaijan in Albania in 2022 and the reciprocal decision by Albania in 2023) marked a new level of political commitment and bilateral engagement.
