Azerbaijan’s Parliament proposes public hearings on mine safety
Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis (Parliament) has proposed holding public hearings to address mine safety, highlighting the growing concern over the impact of landmines on security, the environment, and cultural heritage.
The initiative was introduced by Milli Majlis member Rizvan Nabiyev during a session of the parliamentary Defence, Security and Counter-Corruption Committee, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
Nabiyev suggested that the discussion could be organized as a collaborative effort among multiple parliamentary committees. He emphasized the broad consequences of mine hazards, stating:
“Mine hazards pose a serious threat not only to security but also to environmental resources, cultural and material heritage, soil, and other areas. It would be appropriate to develop a concept addressing the mine issue and bring it to discussion in the format of public hearings over the course of the year.”
