Azerbaijan's Patriotic War legacy preserved through monument and cemetery renovation
Reconstruction work has been completed at the Military Memorial Cemetery (2nd Alley of Martyrs), Colonel Anar Eyvazov, head of the press service of the Ministry of Defence, announced to journalists on September 27.
Eyvazov emphasised that the families of martyrs remain a constant focus of President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
"As part of the Year of Constitution and Sovereignty, and ahead of the 5th anniversary of the Patriotic War, in accordance with the instructions of our Supreme Commander-in-Chief, restoration work has been carried out at the Military Memorial Cemetery. During the reconstruction of these areas, where 12 National Heroes, 11 Heroes of the Patriotic War, and a total of 670 martyrs are buried, the suggestions and wishes of the martyrs' families were taken into account," he stated.
Colonel Eyvazov further noted that a 44-metre-high monument symbolising the Patriotic War has been erected at the site.
“Plaques have been installed to reflect each day of the Patriotic War. I am confident that every citizen who visits this place will feel the heroism of the martyrs and preserve our great heritage in their hearts,” he said.
