Azerbaijan’s Shamkir pipeline accident disrupts irrigation to farmland

A major water pipeline in the Shamkir district of Azerbaijan has suffered a significant rupture, putting the region’s agricultural lands at risk.

Footage from the scene quickly circulated on social media, raising concern among local residents, Caliber.Az reports per local media.

Preliminary reports indicate that the damaged pipeline carries water from the Kura River to the Garajamilli Canal. This vital waterway plays a crucial role in the region’s agricultural sector, providing irrigation to extensive farmland.

The cause of the rupture is currently under investigation. Authorities have been approached for official comments regarding the extent of the damage and the expected timeline for repairs.
