Azerbaijan sees responsibility and honour in hosting ASOSAI meeting, says Audit Chamber head

17 July 2025 12:47

Hosting the 62nd Governing Board Meeting of the Asian Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI) in Baku is both a great responsibility and a high honor for Azerbaijan, Chairman of the Chamber of Accounts Vugar Gulmammadov said.

During this meeting, which is underway in Baku, Gulmammadov emphasised the Chamber’s commitment to studying and applying international experience, exchanging knowledge and information, and enhancing regional cooperation, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

“Being elected to the ASOSAI Governing Board is a sign of trust, and it also brings the responsibility of more active participation in the future,” he stated.

He added that expanding knowledge and experience sharing among supreme audit institutions would help foster more systematic cooperation.

For the record, the Asian Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI) is one of the regional working groups of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI). Established in 1979, ASOSAI promotes cooperation, knowledge sharing, and capacity-building among audit institutions across Asia.

The organization currently includes more than 45 member states, representing a diverse group of countries with varying levels of economic development and governance structures. Its activities focus on improving public sector auditing through training programs, seminars, research initiatives, and institutional partnerships.

Azerbaijan became a full member of ASOSAI in 2002. Since then, its Chamber of Accounts has actively participated in regional audit initiatives and contributed to the development of international audit standards. Azerbaijan’s recent election to the ASOSAI Governing Board marks a new stage in its engagement with regional audit bodies and reflects growing recognition of the country’s role in promoting transparency, accountability, and fiscal oversight.

The 62nd Governing Board Meeting held in Baku brings together representatives from member countries to discuss ongoing projects, strategic priorities, and ways to strengthen institutional collaboration in the face of emerging global challenges.
