Azerbaijan, Somalia focus on strengthening bilateral relations over working lunch
Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the Azerbaijani Milli Majlis (Parliament), and President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia, who is currently on an official visit to Azerbaijan, held a joint working lunch to discuss various issues of mutual interest.
During the meeting, the sides focused on enhancing bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Somalia, particularly in the areas of inter-parliamentary cooperation, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
The discussions also touched upon broader prospects for collaboration and the potential for strengthening ties between the two nations.
The lunch served as an opportunity for both sides to explore new avenues for cooperation, with an emphasis on fostering stronger diplomatic, economic, and cultural connections between the two countries.
Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who is on an official visit to Azerbaijan, was received by President Ilham Aliyev on February 12. The sides made press statements and held productive meetings during which bilateral documents were also signed.
As part of the visit, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, toured the Sangachal oil terminal, one of the key hubs in the country’s oil and gas industry.
The visit, which included a detailed overview of Azerbaijan's oil history, highlighted the strategic importance of the terminal to both the nation and the broader region.
Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, accompanied by Defence Minister Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur, paid a visit to one of the Azerbaijani Army's commando units today, on February 13.
They were joined by Azerbaijani Defence Minister Colonel General Zakir Hasanov and Defence Industry Minister Vugar Mustafayev.
The delegation was introduced to the latest defence technology, including a new simulator developed by the Ministry of Defence Industry.
