Azerbaijan thwarts large drug trafficking operation

Officers from Azerbaijan's Interior Ministry and the State Border Guard Service (SBS) have successfully prevented the illegal trafficking of a significant consignment of drugs smuggled into the country.

In an operation carried out in Bilasuvar District, police and border guards detained a suspect, identified as N. B., a citizen of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

According to a report by Caliber.Az via the press service of the Interior Ministry of Azerbaijan, the suspect was found in possession of approximately 6 kg of marijuana enriched with psychotropic substances and 1,800 methadone tablets.

A criminal case has been opened under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code, and an investigation is currently underway.
