Azerbaijan to hold Sixth Baku International Architecture Competition
Azerbaijani Mugham Centre will hold an opening ceremony and press conference for the Sixth Baku International Architecture Competition on October 4.
The jury of the competition includes the following architects: Deniz Injedayi (Türkiye), Kevin Bingham (South Africa), Divya Kush (India), Giuseppe Cappochin (Italy), Leo Orellana (Chile) and Elbay Qasimzada (Azerbaijan), Caliber.Az reports.
The jury meeting is scheduled for October 4-5, and the ceremony of announcing the winners is scheduled for October 6.
More than 200 projects were submitted to the Sixth Baku International Architecture Competition by architects from 29 countries.
Since 2013, the Union of Architects of Azerbaijan together with the country’s Culture Ministry with the support of the International Union of Architects has been organising Baku International Architectural Competitions, which are among the world's highest-rated architectural competitions.
The competition is held every two years. The Jury of the competition consists of internationally renowned architects recommended by the International Union of Architects. Over the past 10 years, the Jury members were Michel Barmaki (Lebanon), Vasilis Sgoutas (Greece), Thomas Vonye (USA), Haider Ali (Sudan), Patrick Colombier (France), Esa Mohamed (Malaysia), Catherine Jacot (France), Viti Nsalambi (Angola), In-Suk Cho (South Korea), Victor Leonel (Angola), Joseph Kuan (Hong Kong) and Elbay Qasimzada (Azerbaijan).
In total, architects from 53 countries with more than 1,000 projects participated in the 2013-2021 competition. In the five competitions held so far, architects from Portugal, France, USA, Slovenia, Georgia, Japan, Russia, Morocco, Croatia, Italy, Bangladesh, Spain, Ukraine, Germany, Vietnam, Singapore, Kyrgyzstan, Greece, Malaysia, South Africa, Egypt, Kenya, United Arab Emirates, Mexico, Romania, Poland, India and Azerbaijan have won the competition.
The jury of the competition, consisting of renowned architects, as well as the quality, variety of interesting and functional works submitted to the competition, once again confirm the significance of this competition.
