Azerbaijan to limit import of French animal products

The Azerbaijan Food Safety Agency is taking appropriate measures under the epizootic situation in the world based on data from the World Organisation for Animal Health to protect animals from infectious diseases.

“According to official data from the World Organisation for Animal Health, an epizootic hemorrhagic disease has been revealed in the French region of Pays de la Loire, while highly pathogenic avian influenza - in the Brodsko-Posavska administrative-territorial unit of Croatia,” Caliber.Az reports citing the Food Safety Agency’s information support and innovative solution department.

According to the message, the import of all types of live ruminant animals from the Pays de la Loire region, and their genetic material was temporarily banned to protect the Azerbaijani territory from these infectious diseases.

The import of live poultry and hatching eggs, poultry meat, processed products containing poultry meat, all types of poultry products from enterprises located within a radius of 10 kilometres from the farm where the outbreak of the disease was detected (except for goods subjected to heat treatment to destroy bird flu), feed and feed additives for poultry (except for feed and feed additives of plant origin obtained by chemical and microbiological synthesis) from the Brodsko-Posavsky administrative-territorial unit into Azerbaijan has been also restricted.

“An appeal has been sent to the Azerbaijani State Customs Committee to take appropriate measures concerning vehicles arriving from the specified administrative-territorial units or transiting Azerbaijan to strengthen control measures,” the Food Safety Agency said.
