Azerbaijan, Türkiye elevate space cooperation with landmark satellite MoU
Azerbaijan’s space agency, Azərkosmos, and Türkiye’s satellite telecommunications company, Türksat, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking a significant step in their bilateral cooperation.
The agreement, reported by Azərkosmos, aims to foster mutual development in satellite telecommunications, as well as the exchange of knowledge, professional skills, and expertise between the two parties, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
The signing took place during the Space Technologies Conference (STC), organised by Azərkosmos, where the agency plans to secure around ten similar agreements throughout the event.
Under the MoU, the two organisations are set to expand collaboration in key areas such as strategic, economic, scientific, technological, and ICT fields.
The document also outlines plans for bilateral consultations on international and regional satellite service regulations, radio frequency management, and the use of geographic information systems, among other space-related activities.
Moreover, in April 2024, the two organizations signed a commercial agreement enabling Türksat to utilize the Azerspace-2 satellite for data transmission projects in Africa. This collaboration allows Azercosmos to leverage Türksat's advanced satellite technologies, fostering mutual growth in satellite services.
Furthering their cooperation, in October 2023, Türksat and Azercosmos agreed to extend the coverage of Türksat 5B satellite to encompass the entire Azerbaijani territory. This partnership aims to provide high-speed broadband services across Azerbaijan, enhancing connectivity for both consumer and corporate users.
Additionally, at the 2024 Space Technology Conference in Ankara, Türksat and Azercosmos signed an agreement to offer Ku-Band satellite capacity in regions outside Türksat's coverage area, broadening their service reach.
