Azerbaijan, UAE explore deeper climate cooperation at World Government Summit PHOTO

COP29 President Mukhtar Babayev and Lead Negotiator Yalchin Rafiyev participated in a key panel discussion at the World Government Summit (WGS), where they emphasized Azerbaijan’s commitment to global climate cooperation.

The session, organized by the COP Presidencies Troika, underscored the importance of partnerships in addressing climate challenges. During their speeches, both Babayev and Rafiyev highlighted the collaborative spirit between Azerbaijan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), reaffirming Azerbaijan’s strong support for the upcoming COP30 presidency, Caliber.Az reports via COP29 X account.

“The COP29 President and Lead Negotiator Yalchin Rafiyev attended a panel World Government Summit hosted by the COP Presidencies Troika. In their remarks, they reflected on the spirit of engagement and partnership with the UAE and affirmed Azerbaijan’s support for the incoming COP30 Presidency,” the post reads.

On the sidelines of the summit, Babayev also held significant bilateral discussions with UAE officials. He met with UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment, Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, where they focused on enhancing the longstanding relationship between the two nations.

The talks centred on the outcomes of COP29 and explored further avenues to strengthen Azerbaijan-UAE cooperation in environmental and climate-related initiatives. The bilateral meeting highlights the mutual commitment of both countries to addressing the global climate crisis through united action.

“To conclude engagements at World Government Summit, COP29 President held a bilateral meeting with Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment for the UAE. The leaders discussed the lessons learnt from respective COPs and discussed how to further cement UAE-Azerbaijan relations,” the post by COP29 notes.

In another noteworthy engagement, Babayev met with Tony Blair, the Executive Chairman of the Global Change Institute, to discuss the crucial role of international collaboration in addressing climate challenges. The meeting emphasized the importance of cooperation between governments, private sectors, and charitable organizations to combat climate change and promote sustainable development.
