An agreement has been signed in Madrid to hold the 71st meeting of the European Regional Commission of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in Baku from 4 to 6 June.
According to the State Tourism Agency of Azerbaijan, the agreement was formalized during the International Tourism Fair FITUR in Madrid, where an Azerbaijani delegation was also in attendance, Caliber.Az reports.
The document was signed by Fuad Nagiyev, Head of the State Tourism Agency, and Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary-General of the UNWTO.
During the meeting, Azerbaijan also announced its candidacy for membership in the UNWTO Executive Council for the 2025–2029 term. The parties discussed collaborative efforts within the framework of the Glasgow Declaration and Azerbaijan's participation in the "Best Tourism Village" competition.
Note that, the decision to host the 71st meeting in Baku was made last April in Tirana, during the 70th meeting of the Regional Commission.
