Azerbaijan, US strengthen dialogue on religious freedom
Chairman of the Azerbaijani State Committee on Work with Religious Institutions Ramin Mammadov and the US delegation have discussed the ways to foster dialogue on religious freedom.
Mammadov and the delegation from the US Commission on International Religious Freedom, led by Steven Schneck, also discussed the cooperation between the two countries, the State Committee on Work with Religious Institutions told Caliber.Az.
During the discussions, Mammadov highlighted Azerbaijan’s rich history of interfaith harmony and the government’s continuous support for various religious communities in the country.
He emphasised the country’s commitment to promoting peaceful coexistence among different religious groups and ensuring that religious communities operate freely and without restriction. The talks also centred around the process of registering religious communities and the government’s efforts in restoring cultural and religious landmarks.
Special attention was given to the preservation of Christian and Jewish temples, reflecting Azerbaijan's inclusive approach to religious heritage. The US delegation expressed high praise for the favourable environment for religious organisations in Azerbaijan, commending the country’s policies and practices that ensure religious freedoms are upheld.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to ongoing dialogue and collaboration in the area of religious rights, with a shared goal of enhancing the protection of religious freedoms globally.
