Azerbaijani border guards spot Iranian citizens digging near Khudaferin Bridge VIDEO
On May 11, around 04:00, suspicious activities by unknown individuals were detected on the territory of the Horadiz border detachment of Azerbaijan's State Border Service (SBS), near the Khudaferin Bridge.
Four individuals, who crossed from the Islamic Republic of Iran, crawled across the Khudaferin Bridge and reached the Azerbaijani side, where they began digging near the bridge's support, Caliber.Az reports, citing the SBS press centre.
"A border patrol guarding the state border was immediately dispatched to the scene, and the opposite side was urgently notified about the incident."
Upon seeing the approaching border patrol, one of the violators jumped into the Araz River, while the other three were detained on Iranian territory.
An inspection of the site was carried out with the involvement of representatives from both sides, during which tools used for the digging work on the bridge were discovered and seized.
According to Iranian sources, the detainees are citizens of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Search efforts for the person who jumped into the Araz River are ongoing, with representatives from both sides involved.
Operational and investigative activities are currently underway.
