Azerbaijani border officers detain Sri Lankan offenders
The Azerbaijani State Border Service continues protecting the state borders reliably.
While trying to cross the state border from the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Islamic Republic of Iran, four Sri Lankan citizens, namely, 20-year-old Intirakumar Dishant, 41-year-old Sivarathnam Vijayakumar, 29-year-old Ukenthiran Sayanthan, and 23-year-old Ramachandran Tkhilakshan were detained as border trespassers on the territory of the frontier outpost of the Horadiz frontier detachment, located near Shahsevan-1 village of the Beylagan district on September 15 at 08:50 (GMT+4), the Azerbaijani State Border Service told Caliber.Az.
Three detainees arrived in Azerbaijan from Qatar via a Doha-Baku flight while one detainee from the United Arab Emirates via a Dubai-Baku flight.
The investigative agencies revealed that the citizens of Sri Lanka, having violated the state border, intended to migrate from the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Islamic Republic of Iran, and from there to the Republic of Türkiye, and then to one of the European countries.
The investigative measures are underway.
