Azerbaijani customs officers prevent drug smuggling

Employees of the Western Territorial Main Customs Administration, according to two facts, prevented the illegal import of tobacco products into the country.

Caliber.Az reports citing the press service of the State Customs Committee, a Volvo cargo vehicle arriving in the Republic of Azerbaijan from Georgia was detained at the Qırmızı Körpü customs control post. The driver stated that there are no items hidden from customs control and  not subject to declaration in the vehicle.

During the customs inspection in the interior of the vehicle, 5 packages of psychotropic substance - methamphetamine were found on the seat in the purse belonging to the driver.

According to the conclusion of the Center for Forensic Examinations of the Ministry of Justice, the weight of the detected psychotropic substance – methamphetamine is 6.708 grams.

It should be noted that methamphetamine is included in the "List I of psychotropic substances, the trafficking of which is prohibited in the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan."

The fact is under investigation.
