Azerbaijani flag becomes world’s largest Second entry into the Guinness World Records / PHOTO

19 November 2025 17:36

The dimensions of the national flag of the Republic of Azerbaijan installed at the National Flag Square in Baku’s Sabail district have been remeasured and confirmed as a new world record.

According to measurements carried out by a Guinness World Records adjudicator and international experts, the Azerbaijani flag currently flying on the flagpole is 80 metres long and 40 metres wide, Caliber.Az reports.

In November 2024, these dimensions stood at 72 and 36 metres respectively.

The height of the flagpole is 201.19 metres, making it the second-tallest in the world after the one in Cairo, Egypt.

The National Flag Square was established by presidential decree in November 2007 and inaugurated on September 1, 2010, as part of a wider effort to reinforce national symbols and identity in Azerbaijan.

Located in the Bayil/Sabail district along the Caspian shore, the 60-hectare site features the state coat of arms, the national anthem inscribed in bronze and a large map of the country embedded in the plaza.

Since its opening, the square has become a prominent landmark in Baku, frequently hosting official ceremonies and public events.
