Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry condoles with Georgia over tragic fire incident in Gali district

Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has offered condolences to the government and people of Georgia following the devastating fire in the Gali district of Abkhazia that claimed the lives of several children.

The ministry shared a post on its official X account in this regard, Caliber.Az reports.

We are deeply saddened by the tragic fire that claimed the lives of five children in Gali district of Abkhazia, #Georgia.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families affected by this devastating event and to friendly Georgia.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic fire that claimed the lives of five children in Gali district of Abkhazia, Georgia.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families affected by this devastating event and to friendly Georgia.

May Allah give the strength to bear this loss,” the post by the ministry reads.

A fire broke out in Cholaria family’s house in Saberio on January 5, claiming the lives of five children, one of them was less than a year old.

Preliminary reports suggest that the tragedy was caused by negligence. The children's grandmother attempted to light a stove but accidentally mixed up containers of gasoline and kerosene. The flames engulfed the house in minutes, with neighbours only managing to rescue the grandmother, who is currently receiving treatment in Kutaisi.

The Georgian government has declared January 9 a day of mourning following the tragic incident.
