Azerbaijani freestyle wrestlers triumph at European U-17 championship
The Azerbaijani national freestyle wrestling team has secured the top position at the European U-17 Championship, showcasing an impressive display of talent and determination.
Held in the Serbian city of Novi Sad, the event saw Azerbaijan's young wrestlers achieve remarkable success, winning a total of six medals, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
The Azerbaijani Wrestling Federation proudly announced that the team clinched two gold, two silver, and two bronze medals, accumulating a total of 160 points. This stellar performance earned them the championship title in the team competition, setting them apart as the leading nation in this year's continental championship.
The Azerbaijani team outperformed its competitors, finishing 36 points ahead of Armenia, which secured second place. Turkey followed in third place with 119 points.
The gold medals were awarded to Muhammad Ismayilov in the 51 kg category and Isa Yusibov in the 65 kg category. Huseyn Ismayilov, competing in the 60 kg category, and Muhammad Gantemirov, in the 110 kg category, both earned silver medals. Meanwhile, Hajihuseyn Ahmadzada (48 kg) and Huseyn Huseynov (55 kg) contributed to the team's success with bronze medals.
