Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev held separate meetings with the newly appointed ambassadors of Cambodia, Oman and Ireland on July 17, discussing prospects for expanding bilateral relations across political, economic and other areas.
During his meeting with Cambodia’s Ambassador Sok Chea, President Aliyev said Azerbaijan attached importance to bilateral relations and mutual support, as well as to active contacts between the two governments and ruling parties. He emphasised the need to expand cooperation beyond the political sphere to include economic and investment ties, describing Azerbaijan and Cambodia as friendly nations, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
Sok Chea conveyed greetings from Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni and Prime Minister Hun Manet. He said Cambodia highly valued its friendly relations with Azerbaijan and noted that, despite the geographical distance between the two countries, they held similar positions on key global issues, including sustainable development, international peace and stability.
The ambassador pledged to work toward expanding cooperation in trade, tourism, culture and people-to-people contacts. The sides also praised cooperation within international organisations and expressed hope that an expected visit by Cambodia’s prime minister to Azerbaijan would provide new opportunities to deepen bilateral ties.

Aliyev also received Oman’s newly appointed ambassador, Saif Rashid Saif Al-Jahwari. The Azerbaijani president said relations between the two countries were developing successfully, including through cooperation within international organisations, and highlighted prospects for further strengthening the partnership.
The ambassador conveyed greetings from Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said and expressed his commitment to contributing to the development of bilateral relations. The sides noted the importance of the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Oman and discussed recent high-level contacts.
Cooperation in tourism was also addressed, with the sides noting the creation of a joint investment fund and exchanging views on prospects for increasing its financial capacity in the future.
Ireland-Azerbaijan
In a third meeting, the president received Ireland’s newly appointed ambassador, Clare Brosnan. The Azerbaijani president emphasised the importance of expanding bilateral relations and identifying opportunities for cooperation in investment and other areas beyond political ties.
Brosnan congratulated Aliyev on developments related to the Azerbaijan-Armenia peace agenda and said Ireland supported the development of relations between Azerbaijan and the European Union. She also noted that Ireland would host the next Summit of the European Political Community.
Recalling her participation in COP29 in Azerbaijan, Brosnan praised the organisation of the event and the results achieved. Aliyev highlighted Azerbaijan’s initiatives on the global green agenda and ongoing work in the country in this area.
