11 March 2025 13:30

Azerbaijani Health Minister Teymur Musayev and UK’s renowned scientist specialising in brain physiology, Baroness Susan Greenfield have highlighted the significant potential for expanding cooperation between the two countries in the healthcare sector during a meeting at the Azerbaijani Health Ministry.

Musayev warmly greeted Baroness Greenfield and her delegation, emphasising that the Azerbaijan-UK relations are steadily progressing, the ministry told Caliber.Az.

The minister highlighted the favourable conditions for exchanging modern methodologies and scientific-practical information, particularly in the field of continuous professional education for medical specialists.

“The British healthcare system [National Health Service – NHS], known for integrating innovative treatments into clinical practice and the high level of professional training for medical personnel, is one of the most efficient in the world. Additionally, UK medical universities are renowned for producing top-tier specialists through their high-quality education. The collaboration between Azerbaijan Medical University, leading healthcare centres in Azerbaijan, and prestigious institutions like the Royal Institution of Great Britain, Royal Liverpool University Hospital, University College London Hospital, and other world-renowned UK universities is vital in enhancing our countries’ cooperation in healthcare,” said Musayev.

As part of her working visit to Azerbaijan Baroness Greenfield expressed her gratitude for the warm reception and highlighted that the UK places great importance on strengthening bilateral relations with Azerbaijan. She noted that Azerbaijan’s ongoing efforts to transform its healthcare system in recent years have been commendable.

Recalling her frequent visits to Azerbaijan for international events, Greenfield emphasised that global forums held in the capital are always of the highest standard. The Baroness also expressed confidence that further expansion of healthcare cooperation would bring significant benefits to both countries. The meeting concluded with a productive exchange of views on other areas of mutual interest.

Azerbaijan and the UK have enjoyed a growing partnership in the healthcare sector over recent years. This collaboration has been bolstered by the exchange of expertise, medical education, and advancements in clinical practices. British institutions, including the Royal Institution of Great Britain, University College London, and Royal Liverpool University Hospital, have established connections with Azerbaijani medical universities and healthcare centres. These partnerships focus on enhancing the quality of medical education, training healthcare professionals, and integrating innovative treatments into clinical practice. Furthermore, both countries have shared knowledge on improving healthcare systems, with Azerbaijan looking to modernize and expand its healthcare infrastructure.
