Azerbaijani NGOs voice concerns regarding Red Cross activity
Several representatives of the Azerbaijani civil society and NGOs have addressed the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in an open letter expressing their serious concerns regarding the activity of the ICRC in the country.
As reported by APA, the letter has been directed at the President of the ICRC, Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, which puts forward the demand to "completely subordinate the Khankandi office to the Baku representative office" in order to establish its activities in accordance with the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state of Azerbaijan.
The letter also touches upon the issue of missing persons, requesting the ICRC to "strengthen the dialogue with the Armenian side on the issue of missing persons", noting that the organization failed to provide information in the course of its 30-year presence in Azerbaijan on the whereabouts of over 4,000 Azerbaijanis that went missing as a result of the Armenian aggression.
