Azerbaijani official, Catholic Church Bishop discuss multiculturalism, tolerance PHOTO
Chairman of the Azerbaijani State Committee on Work with Religious Institutions Ramin Mammadov has visited the Catholic Church of the Holy Virgin Mary in Baku.
During his visit, he toured the church's art gallery, prayer hall, and administrative building, Caliber.Az reports citing the local media.
During a meeting with Bishop Vladimir Fekete of the Apostolic Prefecture of the Catholic Church, Mammadov highlighted the significant attention and care given by Azerbaijani national leader Heydar Aliyev to the Catholic community. He noted that this policy is being successfully continued by President Ilham Aliyev.
Mammadov emphasized the special attention given by Azerbaijani First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva to the Catholic community and the close collaboration between the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Roman Catholic Church.
Regarding the importance of promoting the traditions of harmonious coexistence among various groups within the country's socio-cultural environment on the international stage under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, Mammadov emphasized that these efforts are fundamental to Azerbaijan's purposeful development and rapid progress.
During the meeting, Bishop Vladimir Fekete provided extensive information about the history and activity of the Catholic community in Azerbaijan and expressed satisfaction with Azerbaijan’s attention and care. The bishop also highlighted his appreciation for Azerbaijan's role in advancing multicultural values.
The discussion also covered proposals for expanding cooperation between the various religious communities in Azerbaijan and further developing the traditions of multiculturalism and religious tolerance.
