Azerbaijani official highlights ancient roots of urban planning at WUF13
Azerbaijan’s urban planning traditions date back to ancient times, presidential aide Hikmet Hajiyev said during the 13th session of the World Urban Forum in Baku.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the forum, Hajiyev said Azerbaijan has a long-standing history of urban development, citing ancient settlements and historic cities across the country as examples, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
According to him, the history of urban planning in Azerbaijan stretches back to the pre-Christian era and includes cities such as Gabala, once the capital of ancient Caucasian Albania, as well as Nakhchivan and other historic urban centres.
Hajiyev also described Baku as one of the country’s leading examples of urban planning and architectural development.
“As President Ilham Aliyev emphasised, Azerbaijan possesses unique experience in the field of urban planning,” he said.
